Project Overview

With four children under the age of 11, Alice and Brian needed a kitchen that could keep up with real family life—homework at the table, quick breakfasts before school, big holiday meals, and the everyday chaos that comes with a busy household. Their 28-year-old kitchen was well loved, but it was cramped, dark, and no longer worked for how their family actually lived.

Win-Win Remodeling partnered with the family to open and enlarge the space, improve flow, and create a warm, durable kitchen where everyone could gather comfortably—without losing the character and heart of the home they loved.

The Challenge

The original kitchen was constrained by tight walkways between cabinets and appliances, making cooking stressful and crowded. The island jutted into the breakfast area, forcing the dining table against the wall and eliminating seating on one side. An adjacent formal dining room sat largely unused, while the family squeezed into a kitchen that simply wasn’t designed for six people moving at once.

Alice wanted more—and better placed—work surfaces, significantly more storage, and a gas cooktop. The family wanted an island that could seat all six for casual meals and homework time, without sacrificing prep space by placing a sink or cooktop in the island. The combined kitchen and dining spaces also needed a unified lighting plan and kid-proof, durable flooring.

The Design Vision

Create a calm, open, family-centered kitchen that supports everyday life and brings everyone together. The design needed to make cooking feel easier, gathering feel natural, and the kitchen feel like the heart of the home—where kids and parents could share space without bumping elbows.

The Solution

Kitchen Expansion & Layout

  • Removed the wall between the kitchen and the unused dining room to dramatically enlarge the kitchen footprint
  • Designed a new oversized island with seating for six—perfect for meals, homework, and everyday family life
  • Kept the island clear by relocating the cooktop to the perimeter for uninterrupted work surfaces
  • Installed a gas cooktop on the perimeter wall with a wall-mounted hood as a focal point

Storage & Functionality

  • Added tall pantry cabinets with roll-out trays for family-sized storage
  • Integrated a trash pull-out and spice pull-out for better workflow
  • Created a microwave niche accessible to older children for independent snacks
  • Installed double wall ovens to support holiday meals and busy family cooking

Lighting & Flooring

  • Unified lighting across the newly combined kitchen and dining spaces
  • Installed durable luxury vinyl plank flooring designed to withstand daily family life

The Result

What was once a cramped, restrictive kitchen is now an open, welcoming family hub. Cooking feels calmer and less crowded. The entire family can eat together without squeezing. Kids and parents can share the island for homework, snacks, and conversations that naturally happen when everyone ends up in the kitchen.

The space now supports the rhythm of a busy household—while still feeling warm, organized, and beautifully finished.

Homeowner Experience

Brian, Homeowner:

“We couldn’t be happier with the result of our kitchen remodel…
And it’s not just the high-quality work! Their timeliness was impeccable as well. I told Eric (the owner) and Kevin (our project manager) that I had THREE different friends on Facebook complaining about delays and no-shows on their own projects using other companies. Not the case with Win-Win… thanks to a TON of thorough front-end planning, nearly all the labor was completed almost two weeks ahead of schedule!
We’re so thankful to the Win-Win team, and we HIGHLY recommend their services!”
